Jessica Mae is an incredible woman. In under a decade, she's had a whirlwind career being a law graduate, fashion designer, fashion consultant and freelance creative project manager. She's experienced highs such as showcasing her work at London Fashion Week. She's also had lows including a year where she hit financial difficulty forcing her to close her fashion consultancy and reassess her direction in life. But Jessica Mae is not a quitter. After a much needed break, she bounced back and now uses her extensive experience and network to serve the world as a lifestyle consultant.

Jess helps people design the life they dream of and puts a plan in place to help them achieve this. She works holistically with her clients reviewing all areas of their lives from time/resource management to diet and fitness to identifying core values and building confidence. In this video we talk about how to go about creating the ideal life that we want and the attitudes we need to adopt when pursuing our dreams.

WARNING! There are a some swear words in this video, so please be mindful if there are children present when watching!

If you don't have to time to watch the whole video, I've summarised some of the key learnings below!

Some of us have multiple passions and some of us have no idea what we want to do in life. In both cases, we feel stuck and we don't have a clear vision. All we know is that we are not happy where we are. I ask Jess, what should we do?

Jess quotes Parker Palmer when she says 'Let your life speak'. In times when you are feeling lost, frustrated and unsure of what direction to take in life, take a moment to just stop and take notice of clues your life is trying to show you. Perhaps all that you know is that you hate your current situation. Ask yourself, what is it that you hate? Answering this question will give you your first clue as to what you should (or shouldn't) do moving forward. Notice what energises you, what stresses you out. Notice the people you enjoy spending time with and the ones who drain you. Let your life speak to you. The more aware you are of what your life is telling you, the better informed you will be when making the next decision rather than mindlessly running away from painful situation to painful situation.

I ask Jess, how can we handle it when our dream life seems a million miles away from our current situation?

"We're never going to get to the next part of our life and find peace there, if we can't find peace where we are now"

Jess says, no matter where you are in life, you will ALWAYS want bigger and better, or different. Once you come to terms with this fact, it makes things much easier. The trick is to keep working towards your dreams, but simultaneously find gratitude and contentment in your current situation. Then use this energy to fuel your journey as you keep working towards your goals.

I end the interview asking Jess for some simple steps to start crafting the life of our dreams. She gives us these 3 steps to start transforming our lives:

1. Set your compass

It makes sense that before embarking on any journey, we must first be clear about the destination. Even if you're not sure exactly what it is you want to do, start picturing what the life you want feels like. What does your ideal day look like? What sort of things do you spend your time doing? Who do you spend your time with? When you set your compass in this way, you aren't stuck to just one model of 'success'; you become more open to how this lifestyle could manifest in reality.

2. Show up!

Nothing will work unless you put in the work! Visualisation or prayer alone will not make your dream a reality. Set clear, tangible goals, break them down into small manageable tasks and just do the work, day in and day out. Learn to better manage your time, energy and resources for maximum productivity. Showing up also means taking on the opportunities in front of you, even if you're not ready for it. It also means knowing when to say no to people and situations that drag you further away from your vision.

3. Surrender

"The tighter we hold onto the things that we say we want, the more we squeeze them to death...it's in the surrender that the magic happens"

So now you know what you want and you're showing up and doing the work. The final step is to surrender to how your ideal life will actually manifest in reality. Surrendering means being open to the fact that your plans might not unfold exactly as you had hoped. But it's also having the faith that as you keep doing the work, what you want in life will come to you, even if it's in ways that you never previously thought possible.

It was an absolute pleasure to interview Jess. I hope you found some nuggets of wisdom from her as I did. What was your biggest take away from this interview? Let me know in the comments section below!
