Finding your passion...or not.

Some of us are born knowing exactly what we want to do in life. We have a PASSION. A passion for writing, a passion to be a doctor, a passion to dance etc. For as long as we can remember, we have found no greater joy in life, nothing that lights up our very being, as indulging in our passion. It's as if the stars aligned upon our births to say this is what we need to do with our lives; this is our calling.
"Unfortunately", I am not one of those people.
At school, I was an 'all rounder'. I was interested in everything (except PE, I hated PE!). I loved English literature, history and french. I also liked science, religious studies and philosophy. I wanted to learn business, psychology and economics but never got the chance to. To top it off art was my favourite subject. I also love cooking, singing, dancing and writing. I love business and entrepreneurship. I love charity work and teaching. To narrow down my choices and try to stick to one path in life was difficult because I felt like to had to give up everything else.
If you're anything like me, you're not passionate about anything, you're passionate about EVERYTHING. And sometimes, wanting to 'do it all' can leave you just as confused, anxious and overwhelmed as not knowing what you want to do at all.
For years I struggled with the fact that I didn't have a passion in life. I was jealous of people who knew exactly what they wanted to do. I was good at everything, but not amazing and definitely not passionate about anything in particular.
A while ago, I stumbled upon this incredible speech by my hero Elizabeth Gilbert. Watching her speak bought tears to my eyes, as I finally let go of years of pressure I had put upon myself to 'find my passion' in life. Turns out there was nothing wrong with me and now I have never been happier with my choices in life.
If you feel the same way I did, please please take the time to watch Liz's talk. I hope it brings you a new perspective and gives you the same comfort as it did it to me. You're not alone in the way you feel. It's time you put that burden down and celebrated with me for being just the way we are :)
